So I am going to be doing my first valve adjustment now that the M30 is in the car. This looks like it is going to be a bitch. I have to rotate the engine of course but there is not enough room to get to the crank bolt on the front. Unless I pull the radiator out that is. Otherwise I could try turning the engine from the trans but that seems like it would be pretty damn tough. Any tricks you M30 owners have for valve adjustments. Did you guys just pull your radiators? Could I use the starter to rotate the engine ever so slightly?

all you need is some one in the driver seat just tap the key use the starter take the coil wire off but rember when you turn the motor over oil will spray you need to keep an eye on the valve you are working on so you need some one in the driver seat the can take orders as you give them. the hole prosses should not take too long.

Okay I used the starter and that did turn the engine much slower than I though it would. When you guys do your adjustments how do you set the clearance. I just put the feeling between the valve and the lifter then rotate the nut down until it takes a little effort to pull the feeler out. That should be fine right?
The reason I ask is I am getting a lot of ticking from around cylindar 5 or 6. Its towards the back of the engine and I was hoping it was just a valve out of adjustment. I adjusted them all this afternoon but that did not cure the problem. Any suggestions on what to check on this motor to solve ticking?
Also do you guys always adjust the valve clearance in the suggested order or do you just do whichever are closed? I cant see how doing them in order would make a difference but you never know. What do you have to do them in the order the Bentley says?
