    E30 s54 swap

Hey guys, I'm looking for info on doing an s54 swap, I don't plan on doing anything crazy just the simplest way to get it done. I've searched but can't seem to find the right info. I can get my hands on the bare motor and wondering what is all needed to make the swap work. Can anyone help?

So my plan is to buy the harness, have ecu reprogrammed and keeping car obd2.

My question is, has anyone gotten the motor to run correctly after swap? Most that I've searched has made issues with lost of power, throwing codes, idle problems etc..

The rare S54 swap has been done before as you've found. It IS NOT a back yard DIY swap unless you REALLY know what youre doing. Also, running a standalone is better than trying to make the stock E46 M3 EMS work. Its more expensive, but its money well spent. I plan on doing a intense M20 build, but I had many a S54 jab delivered to my ribs lately... Meh... My opinion is that in stock form, the S54 looks ugly in a E30 engine bay... Takes some mods to make me like it. It just looks too... Quiet and well mannered for my taste... Like those girls in high school who only talked to each other and never spoke to anyone else but loved to visit costume parties dressed up so no one could tell who they were when they got freaky...

Lol please point out what I said that was wrong? The thread you posted I've read before. That guy has obvious experience with drivetrain and electronics before hand, has basically a full private shop to work with with lift and extra help included. I NEVER once said you COULDN'T make the stock ECU work. I just said a standalone was BETTER and was money well spent.

Then you must also be telling me that my personal preference of engine looks are wrong. "Welcome to R3vlimited, the second incarnation of the Soviet Union" lol

I did the swap in my garage with no lift. I've worked on some cars before but I'm not a pro by any means. I did the harness by myself and sent the DME out to be flashed. It's an easy swap, there just needs to be more of them running so that all the quirks with the DME can be sorted out. It's basically an m50 swap with some extra wiring and a somewhat expensive DME flash.

I think it's foolish to spend the money on Standalone for anything other than a dedicated track car, the stock ecu can be tuned and datalogged and there is a large group of people working on and developing software to open it up even further.

The more of these swaps that get completed the more I want one. To all those doing the legwork and sharing information, I say thanks.

                  .
price is about the same as doing S52 swap flash.

I guess I can concede on most of that. But I still disagree the stock ecu is as good as a standalone. A standalone can easily be adjusted to the situation after you do work. As in, if you add or subtract mods, it doesn't take very much to readjust it, at least not from what I've seen. Standalones offer more features and more and more are able to adjust their map totally on the fly. Its simply got a wider variety of uses at one time, and a higher level of adjustable settings and such as is.

If you want you car one specific way with maybe some light mods, stay stock, reflash. If you want a wide range of adjustability and flexibility, and the capability to handle more intense mods, go standalone. Is that agreeable to everyone? Probably not, but oh well...

ON WITH YOUR SWAP GOOD SIR!!

Thanks for the replys guys, so I've got the motor along with the ecu, and all sensors. I know it's a hard swap but it's been done many times before so its happening. The ecu software can be cracked now so we don't really have to go stand alone and spend 3K.
