    Oil Control Valve Repair Kit

I did the job described at: http://e30.bmwdiy.info/oil-leak/index.html

My 185k M20 still had the original gasket in there and had begun leaking, or should I say, puking.

Removal is a breeze, but getting it back in there to get the new lockring in place was a bitch. At first, it would not go in straight - the new o-ring was getting caught or something. Then, my clamp kept slipping off.

All told, I spent close to an hour on this job that should have taken about 10 minutes.

But now, the leak is gone.

Last night was replacing the radiator and hoses. Tomorrow, engine and tranny mounts.

    Yee Ha!

Yup. I did that job on my wife's 89 last year. PITA for sure, but it wasn't too hard.

What mounts are you putting in? I have over 1500 miles of track duty on my IE bushings, including 30 k on the street, and when I jump in a stock bushing equipped E30 you can tell the difference right away.

        Keep it slideways!!

How do you like them (yea, I know, off topic)

I'm trying to decide if I should get them or not.

A bit harsher, but not by much. If you have a lumpy idle, you'll feel it like crazy, but if your idle is abouve 800 and smooth, you can't really tell a comfort difference, other than the instant throttle response. It's must if you track the car or drive it hard, as the stock mounts like to fail at the most inopportune times.

Major revision - it didn't leak when I put the fresh oil in - after running it about a minute, it came out gushing like a fountain.

Swapped the old seal back in - still leaks, but nothing like it did with the "new and imrpoved" one in there. The o-ring looks like maybe it got damaged when I installed it.

It sure as hell did not want to go back in straight with the new style o-ring. Not for anything - kept tiliting to one side or the other as I pressed it in.

                Guess I'll get another and try again . . . . UGH.
