    ZF S5-16 for M30 swap?

Anyone know if this trans will work with an m30? I've been looking for a 260 and none around/too pricey to ship/none on ebay. I just found a ZF S5-16 on Ebay, $250 shipped with single mass flywheel/driveshaft/clutch/trans/shifter assembly. I bought it. He says it came out of a 4 cylinder E30, and all the research I've been able to do says it should work. I think I got a good deal. Thoughts? I'm going to replace clutch and pressure plate with a stage 3, resurface/lighten flywheel if possible and call it good.

If it was an m10 powered e30 it should bolt right up, weather it will take the horsepower from the m30 is another thing...

Sorry I'm not very helpful, but this is not a common combination of engine/ transmission.

      Agreed

Yeah it was m10 powered, and I found some people say they're just as good as the 240's. The big upside is driveshaft/clutch/single mass flywheel/shifter all included for 250 shipped!!! Thanks Ebay!!

        Nice pick up.

With the clutch - if the M30 is staying stockish then a stage 3 isn't really that necessary. I'm running a stage 1 (basically an uprated pressure plate + organic clutch disc) with a 215mm clutch and it doesn't slip.

Well I'm planning on staying stockish with maybe some nitrous or a turbo down the road... and If need be, swapping a 260 trans in at that time. I've heard that the 240/zf isn't strong enough, but no stories of anyone actually breaking one with an m30.

It'll last while you'r non-turbo, but if you turbo the car the gearbox will break. Still - to save money, you might as well go for the stage 3 clutch then - your plan is a good one.

The M10 turbo '02 guys do break them.

Luke, you do know the OP is talking about installing a automatic transmission from a m10 to a m30....?

                Nope OP is not

No, the ZF was an alternative to the 240G on some early model m10 cars. It's a 5 speed and same bolt pattern as 240, just made by ZF instead of Getrag.
