    M30 Turbo Questions

    Hi Guys

Rebuilding my M30B35 turbo motor at the moment, and have the following question. Is it safe to shave the piano top pistons flat? Is there enough meat? Getting custom pistons in SA for this motor is turning out to be quite expensive.

    Appreciate your help.

    Cheers!

I would just turbo the B35 and keep the better flow characteristics but understanding that the block may not be as strong as a B34. Ideally I would use a B35 head and pistons in a B34 block.

Motor is B35.B35 head also. I am asking about the High comp pistons. Safe to machine?

I'm unclear on which pistons you actually have, the B35 9:1 pistons or the 10:1 high compression B34 "piano tops"? What compression ratio are you seeking?

Motor is out at the moment. The only other thing I could do now is to destroke it with a M30B28 80mm crank, but I fear that it would drop way too low.

These motors doesn't get much attention here, so I would have to make do with what I have.

            Just some insight.

              Hi Mate
I have seen an elderly gentleman mill/shave the top of the piano pistons. I'm going to lean towards it being OK to do as he builds racing/turbo motors and has been doing so for some time now.
BTW, I'm in Australia, so not sure if there is any difference in the pistons.

                Thanks

So, milled the piano tops flat, and removed another 1mm, could anyone help me with the math? Cos the calculators are so confusing...

                Thanks in advance

I remember seeing a post on the compression in e30tech but it's dead now you can't see any threads.
