    replacing the water pump gasket

coolant seems to be leaking heavely out of what apears to be the water pump gasket is. The timing belt was recently done and i dont want to mess with that but if i take the pump off do i need to redue the who thing?

How old is the pump? If it has over 60k on it it would be advisable to just replace it. Note that a bad seal can result in fluid running down the pump body and off the bottom, which can look like a gasket leak.

It is possbile (but tricky) to replace the pump without messing with the timing belt. The hard part is getting the timing belt tension spring back in place. It is a lot easier to pop the timing belt off when replacing the pump.

The "book" says that the belt should be replaced if is removed. But I'd think it would be okay to reuse the belt if if has only been in place for a few thousand miles.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

That's probably due to the stress on the belt of removing it (relieving tension) and then re-installing it (putting it back into tension). For the cost of a new timing belt compared to the cost of a belt failure, I'd just go ahead and replace the belt unless you're really tight on money, or you don't mind living with the risk - as minimal as it might be.

Indeed, Contitech Belt Kit (includes tensioner as well) is in between 27.36 and 53.76 depending on your connects...

        Belt is 15/16 max...
