In my humble opinion, there is no reason to spend the 2-3 grand on a stroker kit for an M20 when you can pretty much complete an M30 swap for less than $1500 (if you are thrifty)... I just can't see how it would be worth the money since you won't get near the same amount of torque, you will have a smaller torque spread, and M30s are bullet proof.'88 528e /// '88 M5 /// '89 951 /// '98 E430 /// '02 M5

then I belive I would prefer a stroker kit , as I don't want to modify mounts and trasmissions and what not , the stroker's sound more economical and stock looking is always good too.dose anyone have any experience with any of the stroker kits available? thanks.sigpic
mods: just meat and potatoes under the hood and wheaties on fire out back ;)

You don't modify the engine mounts, you get new ones... Less than $300 and your motor is in.
The tranny isn't a big deal either, it slides in and if you get the right one, even the shift linkage won't require any modification.
Don't be scared of the swap, just get educated!
...Or go with the stroker...
I think everyone with an m30 swap is happy to have the extra mountain of torque though. 211hp and like 230ft/lbs, of which around 85% is available from 2000rpm to over 5000rpm (the torque spread is what I vaguely recall from the M90 motor, but the B34 or B35 M30s should be very similar.)'88 528e /// '88 M5 /// '89 951 /// '98 E430 /// '02 M5

I am a newbie so please excuse me, but what cars did the 3.1 and 3.5's come in that you all would recommend finding for a donor car?** Lot's of M20 turbo parts for sale.**
Turn key track car.

The 3.1 that in mentioned earlier in the thread is a stroker, so it would start as either a 2.5 or 2.7 liter M20, the latter being the engine in your 325e. The 3.5 is an M30, and also came in 2.8, 3.0, and 3.2 liter sizes. The M30 is found in E12, E28, and E34 5 series, E24 6 series, E23 and E32 7 series cars from 1975 to about 1993, and in older models like the E3 sedans and E9 CS coupes.
Any M30 can fit your car, but different years will require slightly different motor mounts if you buy them pre-made.'88 528e /// '88 M5 /// '89 951 /// '98 E430 /// '02 M5
