    My guibo is ripping

On my M30 E30. I noticed a vibration out of first gear. I went underneath to take a look. It turns out that my guibo, which was not brand new, but in excellent condition, is "tearing". I can see it. It's not crazy bad, but it has the potential to get bad.

I'm going on a 3 hour trip for a meet tomorrow. Do you think it's safe to bring it? or is a guibo problem something that's going to get exponentially worse as the condition of the guibo gets.

I'm not going to drive it hard at all tomorrow, just wondering if it's going to break and leave me stranded... If i had a pic, i would show you...

I had the same problem on my 535i. Drove it like that for 3 weeks until I finally changed it. I doubt it would deteriorate that much, unless you really stomp on it, and even then it probably wouldn't go. HTH

nah, unless you'll be "using" your turbo it shouldn't tear apart. it has tears on it right? just making sure I'm understanding you.

Tears in the rubber are the first sign of it going bad, but the fibers that make the guibo really have some strength are probably still just fine.

you should consider having a solid alluminum guibo made for that thing with that kind of power, just a thought

We changed one at the PNW Tech Day, that could have been picked apart by a child, guess he said he had back to back track events. He was still rolling, but he replaced it when he replaced his TRANNY!!

Bad idea. It's good to have a cheap, easy to replace "disposable" part in the driveline. If it was solid, you'd be tearing ujoints, halfshafts, diffmounts, etc.

                Keep it slideways!!
