    M30 Mounting Diagram

I am doing an m30 swap and was hoping that someone might have a diagram or dimensions or something of that sort so I could fab up my own brackets.

If you have it I'd really appreciate the help! Or if you have any other suggestions that don't include shelling out over $300 for mounts I'd gladly listen!!

Thanks a bunch for the help

Joe Funk...who needs mobile cars when we have mobile phones? :)

Are you fabbing them up yourself or is there something else up your sleeve that I'm missing?

        More info puuuleaseeee!

        Thanks

I am making copies of the mounts that we fabbed for my conversion.
They sit the motor just right, (IMO), with no modification to the shifter assembly, or firewall (when using b35 cylinder head).

What i did was i put my m30 in with no mounts hanging from the cherry picker. Put about a 3/8" piece of wood inbetween the oil pan and the steering rack so it lays flat, but with most of the weight still on the cherry picker. I positioned it so there is an even amound of space between the firewall/head and the distributor cap/radiator, then a buddy of mine came and spot welded some basic mounts, took them out, and beefed them up.

This position allowed for a perfect fit with out hammering the firewall. I was able to use a e28 535i shift linkage with no modification (260/6 trans). Also i was able to use an E30 M3 driveshaft with no modificaiton also, just took off the thing that locks the size on the spindle so its adjustable.

so with no mods to the firewall what are you doing for a cooling fan? running an electric or just using the A/C fan to keep the motor cool?

Note: you can only accomplish this with the B35 cylinder head!!!

Yes i bolted the old a/c fan to the frame infront of the radiator, i only need it when im in stop and go traffic, other than that, its really not needed.

And yes, the older m30's have that cooling pipe on the back of the head, then some firewall action will be needed.

Thanks for the mount instructions Joe. If Funk does not get the mounts done and I can't seem to get e30.de ones, I will have to make my own. This is good to know how to do.

Make sure you measure the distance from the crank nut to both the right and left sides to make sure it is straight also.

I used this wood piece to make the engine flat, but if i was going to do it again, it would be a little shorter. My AFM just BARELY nicks the hood when i close it.

I am about 1/8" off the subframe with the motor mounts taking full weight. My AFM clears the hood and insulation...
