Is there an easy way to tell a b35 from a b34 by looking at maybe a stamp on the block ? I am going to start looking this weekend for one.

You can tell from the valve cover,
google some E32 cars and E34´s and you´ll see the diffrence right away.

It is true the 320i E30 shaft can be used with a M10 tranny, but you will require a performance M10 clutch, as I did on two cars.
In size the 260 isn´t that bigger then a 240 and I can´t see 240´s beeing weak, just look at good&tights M10 turbo car.

      I´d recommend getting a 260 tough.

I don't think I am going to bother using the g240 with m30, it does have new clutch kit and a good pressure plate but I would rather not skimp on a tranny/clutch and then decide to upgrade and do it all over again....

Do the 260 and 265s use a newer style shifter console ? I would love to upgrade that at the same time...

          Both use both. :)
The newer shifter assembly was introduced sometime around 85...

Fun! Is 265 hard to find worth it over 260 ?

The 265 is a little stronger, but if you can find a 260, I would just get that. Pretty easy to find a 2.7 driveshaft, which fits perfectly with the 260.

Cool, I think e30 restoration bible book mentiones the differences in transmissions also. I'll need to dig it up and understand what cars/years I need to look at for this tranny....

Quick question, because Vert springs are stiffer for the added weight of the convertible cars, could you just get some sport springs/shocks meant for a cabrio and put them on an M30 swapped car to make up for the added weight?

When I did my swap, I had stock "iS" spring, we measured the height before and after the swap. It didn't change +/- 1/16".

Go put you hand on your hood, see how much weight drops the car a 1/16 of an inch...

M30's are cursed with the whole weight thing. Here what happened. M30's look HUGE in a e30 engine bay. No freaking joke, you have to see one in person to really appericate it. So, it LOOKS big, people thought it must weigh twice as much.

Some one suggested that it would ruin handling - and it stuck in everyone minds, without anyone so much as checking on the actual weight. It getting a little old - the whole m30 weight issue, it's 60 lbs more - M50 swaps add weight too, but you never hear that mentioned. Or god forbid a euro s50 is even more...

                    well...

OK!!! Actually - all of the above is a TOTAL LIE...it's an awful amount of weight. So much so that when I step on the brakes really hard, my back tires come of the ground!!!...There you have it, the truth...LOL

                    ...

the one thing about the M30 is that the weight is further forward...
so add a small ballast in the trunk. You gained more than enough torque to cover it. I promise

So could you just put vert springs in the front to balance it out evenly?

Wouldn't be worth the time. Do the swap, and you'll know what we are talking about.
