    Going to the crusher..unless

Well my car didn't sell again so before I make the dramatic move to just crushing everything, because I have ZERO time to part out, I am looking at some options.

I was going to spend money to have some the internals redone on the head but thought I would look at other options. I came across this motor..http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=93525

The wiring harness has already been adapted to go with the 3.2/3.5 second gen motor. I was wondering if I could use that still with the above motor? Also the oil return line he put in, will this affect anything if I don't plan on turboing the car for a long time but still want to drive it?

Now on to the transmission. I have the transmission pictured below will this still fit good on the above motor? What will I have to change (exhaust, radiator hosing) from the 3.2/3.5 setup?

    Thanks

That appears to be a 265, unless it's the super rare 262 dogleg

Yes, it will fit any M30 and should not have any adverse effects on the exhaust or any other part of the build, except the driveshaft... With my 265 I had to have the driveshaft shortened by about 1 3/16".

Having an oil return fitting on the block will not cause any issues unless it is open. As long as it's sealed shut it will be fine.

So...... What are you gonna do? Keep it and put it together? You won't regret it...

Well, the driveshaft is already adapted to the tranny/motor. So will this above motor be longer in any way that will affect the driveshaft that already was in the swap?

I don't know, my brother-n-law, says that he could come pick it up for transport to the crusher at around 4pm so we will see.

The above motor has different things in it, such as a different cam and things. Will this cam have some looping? I will be DDing this car but don't mind alittle noise and a little rougher idle. I guess I am asking, with the add ons this motor has, what can I expect it to peform like or be like?

      Thanks again

As long as it's an M30, the length will be the same, so nothing should change at all.

Don't let your brother in law take it to the crusher man, put it together and have yourself a genuine BMW hotrod!!

Edit: Unless it's like a 292 cam you should be ok... The M30 always has a tiny bit of a stumble at idle I have noticed, so a bit more shouldn't suck too bad.

Alright, cool well I have to think about this pretty hard. Also, I was also just thinking about getting my head cleaned and a new head gasket put in for about $300 so I don't know if I am even going to get this motor. It would make things easier though.

          We'll see. How much HP can a boosted M30 make? Drag-racing m30e30??

I had a head rebuilt for my last car for $180 at a local machine shop that does work for Bimmerhaus Racing! I honestly could not believe the price, and the head was amazing. I have never felt another M30 that idled or revved out so smoothly... If all you need is a valve job, new valve stems and seals, it shouldn't be too pricey...

Too bad head gaskets are like $90.

In any case, I don't think you can go wrong by keeping it. I run into the project car dilemma all the time since I work full time, go to school, and have a girlfriend (who is actually cool about my obsession). It's tricky to find the time and money when you have two cars and are going to school, and sometimes it feels dirty, like maybe you should be saving money and concentrating on other stuff, but I believe it can work out in a great way.

Alright, cool. Well the $300 included the Bav Auto mechanic replacing all the gaskets in the upper and lower portion of the motor from the gasket sets I already have. So maybe I should just keep my head/motor and do it that way.

So, I have really been thinking about this. I am going to start selling stuff and am going to buy the above motor. It has already been through and is basically new.

I know I am being lazy but I just want to make sure on clutches.

I need one that will take the power of the M30...turbo'd in the future (might be the near future). It has to go with that tranny (above) and either (yes still not 100% sure about the motor situation but 95% sure I am getting the new one) motor. Either the above or my second gen 3.2/3.5.

I have been looking at a couple peoples set up and they are using an M5's clutch/flywheel but I want to make sure what one. So if you have the PN's of what I will need or other options let me know.

                Thanks again guys

Glad to see that you are staying with the M30.

I don't know about the guy selling the motor...I tried buying this exact motor a couple months back and he flaked out on me.

Seemed kinda like a douchebag about it...but I would be very wary. Make sure this guy isn't pulling a fast one!!

With the low compression and that cam, my understanding says that this engine will run very poorly until it is boosted.

                  Good luck with it :)

Could you explain alittle bit about the "running poorly" and PM about what you went through with him. This is a pretty big chunk of change and if I am going to get F'd I won't take the risk. I will just get mine redone.

                    Thanks
