So need some help before I start hording parts for my swap

So, my wife gave me a dim green light (a green light non the less) on doing a M30 swap into our 1988 316i. Ive done alot of reading, and I think ive got most of the major parts I need written down. Now here's where I have questions that I cant seem to find the answers to.

    1. Can I use the wire harness currently in my car or do I need to swap in a chassis harness from a 325?

    2. Will the M10 tranny bolt up to the M30?

Everything else Im pretty sure ive got a handle on, but these two I was unable to find a answer too.
    Thanks for the help.

My life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather i will skid in broadside, thoroughly used up,totally worn out and loudly proclaiming....WOW..What a ride!

    1. i don't know anything bout the 316i harness, but here in the u.s most people use the 325i or modify a manual m30 harness from an e24,e28, or e34.
    2. I've heard the m10 will bolt up but it will NOT be able to handle all the torque of the m30 its better to go w a getrag 265 or 280. you live in germany so parts should be really really easy to find and pretty damn cheap too!

The 316i is a 318i, the 1988 was the last year of the m10. Because the m10 had less hp than its predisesor it was just relabled a 316i.

As for the harness, what I mean can the engine harness of the m30 connect to the chassis harness of the m10, or do I need to replace my chassis harness?

humm.. as for the tranny its going to be my wifes DD and she drives pretty conservitively, but still something to keep in mind.

      Thanks

the trans from the M10 will work, but you are in the heartland for big6 getrag 260s, so no sense to not use one.

I dont see any reason why you can't use the 316 harness. You will have to build an adapter, but that is not a huge issue
