M30 B35.. flywheel and clutch combo to use?

I'm planning to use a lightweight flywheel on my M30 B35 with stock E34 5 speed transmission. It will replace the dual mass flywheel.

I'm confused on how to match the clutch with the setup. Should the clutch match the flywheel or transmission?

Which clutch do I use in the following options:

    Option 1:

    Early E28 533 flywheel 17lbs

    Option 2:

    Later E28 533 flywheel 22lbs

    Option 3:

Later E28 533 flywheel (machined and lightened further)

    Thanks!

Sorry I can't be more help but I think the biggest difference from going from a dual mass flywheel to a single mass flywheel is using the original clutch which most likely is a unsprung clutch.

I did this on my 318 when I went from a dual mass to a single mass light flywheel and there was some chatter in the drivetrain but nothing to bad.

So it has to match both really for the best results.

Sorry I couldn't be more help!

    Good luck.

Have to love the E24... and the E30 of course.

I'm not sure you have your info correct.

Use the 533(12 lbs?). Same as the m5. - if you can find one. Head over to mye28.com

I used a stock 535i ( e28 ) flywheel and had it cut down to 17 lbs. Still to heavy IMHO.

The info I got was actually from mye28.com. The M5 flywheel and early 533/633 are one and the same, and are at 17lb.

"Part number 11 22 1 271 463 is the early / M5 & M6 flywheel and it weighs 7.940 Kg. (17.47 Lbs.). This flywheel was original equipment on the following models:
        NA Production Models:
        5 Series E28 Sedans: 533I, M5; 6 Series E24 Coupes: 633Csi, M6; 7 Series Sedans 733i

Part Number 11 22 1 289 244 is the later M30 flywheel and it weighs 10.0 Kg (22.0 Lbs.). This flywheel was original equipment on the following models:
        NA Production Models:
        5 Series E28 Sedans: 533I, 535i; 6 Series E24 Coupes: 633Csi, 635CSi; 7 Series Sedans 733I, 735i"

With respect to clutch, I have found out that it does have to match the flywheel.

I'm getting conflicting advice on which flywheel to use, but am leaning to the 17lb as a compromise between drive-ability and performance. In any case, it's a far cry from the dual mass that's on it now.

if you using OEM parts on the clutch best combo would probably be the e28 M5 clutch kit w a single mass flywheel from an e28 535i..if you can find one for a 533i that'd be even better but they are getting harder and harder to come by. I have a m30b34 so thats the combo I'm going to use. The flywheel I'm going shave 5-8 lbs off depending on how much it actual weighs when I drop it off to be shaved and balanced.

                    I used the M6 flywheel (17lb).
The clutch needs to match the flywheel - I am using a 533 clutch right now, since the clutch I ordered was incorrect for my swap, and I had 3 days to finish it... When I go back in, I am going to use an E34 M5 clutch (or E28 M5)

                      I'm sorry, I meant E34 M5.

I love the setup and it's good for at least 450ft-lb of TQ. The lightweight flywheel revvs up so friggin fast. I got the clutch kit when I got turbo, but now that I've gone back to NA, I'll keep it to prevent slipping in any condition!
