How hard is it to get the M30 and it's transmission into the engine bay as a single unit without removing the rad support? Any tips?

Drop the subframe and bolt it to the engine while the engine is on the hoist. Then slide the whole thing under the car, with the hoist disconnected of course, reconnect the hoist when the engine is under the car, lift it up into position and bolt the subframe back in. I did it that way in about 30 minutes.'88 528e /// '88 M5 /// '89 951 /// '98 E430 /// '02 M5

or...put the hoist on the front hook only and you will have to help hoist the entire package about 3-4inches over the radiator support.
Then jack up the front of the car, while lowering the motor and the rest you will have to determine (what has to go up and down) while you are putting the motor in.

I'm guessing it's easiest the way the dudes said so, it just wasn't all peaches with me. Good luck, dude!

We did it with the rear wheels on ramps and the front of the car sitting on jack stands, nothing too fancy. You just slide the engine / subframe combo under, get it roughly right, lower the car to a more workable height, and reconnect the hoist. We were very surprised at how easily the who unit went in, and like I said, it was bolted up within about 30 minutes.'88 528e /// '88 M5 /// '89 951 /// '98 E430 /// '02 M5

Ok, well I'll give it a shot. I don't have the steroid enhanced jack stands, mine wouldn't nearly get high enough for the engine to clear... but I'll figure it out!
Thanks!

You can drop a m30+tranny into a e30 with a hoist. You just need the car a foot or 2 off the ground.
With out the tranny is much easier(still not easy).Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?
