Just curious -- Audi I-5 in an E30?

Anyone know of anyone who's put an Audi turbo five into an E30?

I'm definitely not equipped to try it, but I'd be curious to know what it would involve. I assume it'd need custom mounts/wiring, as well as some sort of goofy shit to interface with the drivetrain.

I saw this on ebay today, and I think that the new home it needs is under my hood.

Too bad I don't have the money or time to try and make it work. :(

Let me just get this out of my system...

Audis and VWs are shit. Sorry to those of you who like them, but I'm sure many of you will admit that they are shitty... I had a Coupe GT, essentially a 4000CS with the ass chopped off, and it was the worst heap of shit I've ever driven this side of my buddy's '89 Chevy Cavalier... And I've owned Alfa Romeos... That's got to say something.

The 20V may be better than the old 10V, but I still can't fathom why anyone would expend the time or effort into putting one into a BMW when you can turbo an M20 and have a ball.

I had a friend who had an awesome Audi, until it caught fire. (no joke, that happened)

I worked with a guy who was obsessed with 20v's and old rally cars. He was always going on and on about how they were the best. He's never owned a high mileage Audi. Darn shame, wouldn't you say? Why do you suppose he's never owned a high mileage 20v?

Assuming you can get that engine in there, you'll make gobs of power, for a little bit. Besides, I can't think of a single RWD car that engine went in. Fabricating that will be a nightmare...

NO NO NO! Please dont ever think of doing that swap. For the money you would have wrapped into it you could have one of the a baller S or M swap or a rediculous M20 build. Besides is that not for a front wheel drive car? would it not sit wrong in our engine bay? I could be wrong!.

First -- like I said, it's a curiosity thing, I don't have the time, money, or know-how to do anything like this.

Second -- I love Audis more than all you guys hate them put together. Swimstarguy, I have no idea why your coworker never owned a high-mile 20v. My anecdotal experiences about Audi reliability are the exact opposite -- my last car was a naturally aspirated 20v that was in excellent shape at 245K when it got totalled. When I was growing up, my parents had a n/a 10v that got junked at around 300K but was mechanically just fine. I've test driven several old Audis looking to purchase them with over 200K, most of which were fine mechanically.

The reason I could see for doing it is the fact that with a chip, and a wastegate spring, the 20v turbo can put out >300 hp. Plus there's the possibility of the RS2 motor -- 315 hp out of a 2.2l, stock. Granted, the S54 will do that too, but that's just not as cool. :p

And, E30Idea, any Audi engine worth anything is from an AWD car, so I'm not sure how it'd work.
