    Specs for Euro '83 735i M30?

Hey guys, Im picking up a Euro 3.5L M30 from a gray market '83 735i. Just wondering if anyone knows FOR SURE, the specs of the engine. From wikipedia and other sources I gather that is an M30B34, 3.4 L (3430 cc/209 in³), but Im not sure if it is the standard M30B34 or the M or MAE Variant.

Not M as in motorsport, it would be S anyway, but just M at the end of the engine code.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks! -Dylan

    If it's from a euro 735i, it would be a Euro M30B34 with 10:1 compression and the 264 duration cam. 218hp @ 5800rpm, 228ft/lbs @ 4200rpm (I think, it may be 4000rpm).

If the 7 was a bit older it could possibly be the M90B35, the 3453cc 9.3:1 compression M30, but it's not at all likely if it's an '83, as they stopped using that engine before 1982.

the later b34's were 218HP, along with the 10.1 compression.

the early euro cars had a 9.3 compression. and were at 194 hp.

after 83 they went to the 218hp version,

But I may be interested in it if you dont go threw it.

The early 9.3:1 cars were also rated at 218hp, not 194. Maybe you are thinking of the euro M30B32 (3210cc) which was rated right around there. The 9.3:1 motor is essentially the same block that the M88/3 and eventually the S38 was built on. It had a 93.355mm bore instead of the B34s 92mm bore, and an 84mm stroke instead of the B34s 86mm stroke. The result was a faster and freer revving M30 with a huge torque curve... They sometimes killed head gaskets when driven hard though. Having owned two euros 6ers, one with an M30B34 and one with an M90B35 (9.3:1), I can say for certain that the M90 felt a bit quicker.

Thanks guys, this is helpful. The engine has been rebuilt once already in its lifetime, and I think it had Mahle pistons installed but not much else. I will go through the engine and replace anything neccesary, and it will also get a cam for now and much more later.

            Any suggestions as to:

            1) What cam to get?

            2) What head gakset to use, if you think the standard BMW may not hold up well?

Keep in mind this car will be a track car that gets driven to the track, but won't see alot of time on the street except for a few weekends, so great streetability is not super-important.

I'd go with Ireland Engineering's 282 cam for that engine, it should make some more power while preserving driveability, plus its under $200! you might also consider some headers if you are doing a cam, since the cam won't be able to perform at its maximum if the engine can't breathe. Ireland Engineering as well as Paul LaDue both have some very nice medium length designs that should fit in an E30.

Head gaskets won't be a problem on a B34, so just get something decent like a Reinz.

are you buying the complete or just the motor?

I picked up the motor this weekend!

Got the engine, transmission, wiring harness, ecu, and driveshaft for a great deal, FREE!

Just lucked into this one that my friend's dad has sitting for awhile, he had two Euro 735s and this one turned into a parts car.

The car is registered as an '83 but its actually an '82 Grey Market 735i that was imported when it was new.

Now I need to pick up an E30, and alrhough the head was rebuilt a few years ago, Ill probably do rings, crank bearings, and rod bearings while the engine is out, along with oil pan gasket, rear main seal, clutch and hopefully a lightweight flywheel depending on budget constraints.

Ill look into the ireland cam and headers...that sounds like a good deal.

Does anyone know if there is a stroker crank out that would put this up to 3.8 liters or close to it? Just thinking while I have the bottom end apart, may as well look into it...

Ill keep you guys posted, I should get an E30 sometime around mid-May, let me know if you know of one with a straight body.

Also, if anyone has engine mount brackets used or new, probably engine position 3, let me know as Ill need some soon/ OR diagrams would be helpful so I can make some.
