Can you fill in my part list for M30 swap.

I have 87 325ic and this is what I got so far:

    89 m30 from 535i
    90 trans from 735i
    E28 radiator

    questions:
Will my stock driveshaft work? and which engine position will it work with?
Will my stock 87 m20i wire harness plug and play?
Which tranny and motor mounts do I use?
    Which shift linkage work?

I prolly got more questions but this is all I can think of now. Thanks in advance for any help.

Use a 325e '87 driveshaft with the bigger input shaft for the larger guibo (over 3" tri-holes), It should work BEST in position 3, but will work with position 2 (as in e30.de). There will just be less spline contact for position 2, but it'll work.

The stock wiring harness will work just fine, just modify some of the wires to extend to the sensors that are on the M30 engine.

Use the stock E30 transmission bracket and mounts.

Shift linkage will need to be shortened for sure no matter which engine position you use. This is where most of the fabrication will take place for the swap.

Yes it did. But, once again, maybe not there in USA but in europe it did come with manual.

Shift linkage is easy to build, no big worries there.

You shouldn't use M20 wiring harness, instead use M30 wiring harness and modify the round connector near fuse box. No sense at all using M20 wiring harness, it's completely different!

Actually Ive seen multiple people use the M20 harness with minor work, just be careful if youre going to chip the M20 ECU

But what's the point with that? I can't see a reason to start splicing M20 harness when you can use original M30 ECU and harness, only thing you've to do is to change the box-shaped connector to the round one.

What mounts are you using? The mounts I made put the engine in the optimal position...
                    *Use a stock 325e driveshaft
                    *Use factory 325 shift linkage

If I were to do it again, I would look into using the M20i harness. I adapted the M30 harness, and it was interesting. My tach still doesnt work. BTW, with the M20 harness, you still utilize the M30 ECU. **I have not studied the pinout charts, so there is a possibility that they are different. I have 2 close local friends that built their 335s this way, so I know that it works**

There is less splicing to do to utilize an M20 harness than to adapt an M30 harness.

Also, the mounts you use will be determined by the Motor Mounts you are utilizing. Are you building your own?

You are referring to changing the Box-shaped connector. This means that you are referring to using the e23 M30 7-series harness. He has an '89 M30 from a 535i. The Newest generation of the M30 had the round style X20 connector that simply hooks right up to the C101 port.
                          1. If the 535i was automatic, there are a couple wires that need to be modified.
                          2. If it was from a manual, then YES, I can see you just using that harness.

Using the M20 harness from the car that it came from GUARANTEES that the engine will behave exactly the way it did (electrically). Don't be a baby, there isn't alot of splicing to do just to relocate a few sensors. It's not that bad. It just doesn't look as "pretty".

Yes, i was talking about E23 / E28 / E24 box connector. E34 round connector isn't plug'n'play, you still have to change few pins / wires.

Using wiring harness from completely other engine doesn't guarantee anything. In my opinion using the engines' original wiring harness is the only way to do the swap properly.
Changing one connector is way easier than splicing the M20 harness..
