    Shift Linkage?

I've run into somewhat of a snag. The tranny I'm using (early 265) is proving to be somewhat of a headache.

The tranny sits a little too much to the driver side which messes up the alignment of my shift plate. Not to mention the shift plate itself had to be severely chopped and fabricated to get it to mount on the tranny ears. The shifter can hit all of the gears, however It is not anywhere near stock location. I believe I cut the plate too short the first time and might need to try again.

The shifter geometry has somehow pushed itself outa wack and I would like to see if I can fix it. The shift rod is perfect length for the hole in the floor, however the shift plate is too long (hence me cutting it).

Is there a tried and true way that someone knows of in order to fix these issues? What have you other 265 guys used for shift linkage? Do I have to cut the middle section of the plate and have someone weld it back together? What works?!

    Thanks8)

I used the stock sheet metal shift plate from the 6 series on my 265... Lined up perfectly, maybe just a little cocked toward the drivers side.

After thinking about why that is, I remembered that the M30 sits at a 30 degree angle in the 6 and at a 26 or 27 degree angle in the other cars... Makes sense now.

Well you got lucky my friend. I had to shorten the shift plate by 3-4 inches which put my new holes in a funny spot (on the lip of the plate).

      Any other ideas?

Does anyone have any experience with the shift plate replacement from AKG??

Check your motor mounts. Same shit different car for me, but my mounts went bad so your whole set up might be off like mine is. gotta get that one fixed before I race some geos.

My motor mounts are polyurethane, so I don't think that's the issue.

get a 260, with a e28 535 linkage arm and it sits super pretty right in the center of the hole ;)
