    dropping in a m30.

How did you guys drop in this beast? Engine (block/head only with waterpump, alt, PSpump), tranny, shift console.... then build around it...like intake/exhaust manifolds, themostat housing, rotor/cap, ect... Or build it now and drop it in whole with block, head, intake/exhaust manifold, termostat housing, ps pump, alternator...then when its in add the rotor/cap, icv, afm.....

What methods did you guys use? Thanks.

Just drop in the engine and trans assembly and finish assembling it in the car. Be sure to watch your steps so you don't have to backtrack like I did. It ended up being much easier than I anticipated...still a pain though!

I can't imagine trying to fit it in as one assembly...

We drop them in complete, intake/exhaust/all accessories, then bolt up the flywheel, clutch and trans from underneath. It is a really easy motor to drop in and pull out without the trans. You don't even have to take the hood off. ;-)

Mine went in with everything on, put a good enough angle on it to drop it in easier.

nice! I love the turbo. Mines going to have a 50shot at first, then a 75 if I feel the sachs stage3 can hold it.

Why not just get an E34 M5 clutch?

I pumped over 400hp through mine with over 325000 miles on it, you should be fine.

I've done it with and without the tranny, and dropped it out the bottem with suspension/subframe, and re-installed it that way.

                    Easiest is without the tranny.

I also went in through the bottom of the engine compartment with the subframe hanging off of the engine. I can't imagine how much it would have sucked to go in through the top! I'd definitely recommend the bottom up method. Just take the hood off, slide the engine under that car, and hoist it straight up into place.

Hmmm, with my G265, I think I will drop the motor in with bellhousing bolted to the back of the motor then bolt the gearbox up from underneath.

I have IE urethane motor mounts on my m10 and want to use them with my m30. I was looking at IE's website and the 325 and 318i have different mounts... are ones stronger than the other? Should I use them..? If not what mounts should I look into? Thanks!

My 2-cents? "Tino" has really poor customer service skills. I seen it over and over. (Once myself.) I really can NOT recommend doing business with him. He does make mounts that are quality - and let you place the motor where it should be IMHO. Down low, and far back.

Joe funk on the other hand, makes really kick ass mounts. You should look him up. Your motor will be an inch or so forward - so really not a big deal (ask him about his weight distribution thread - you'll be amased)
