do the 2.7i stroker? pretty cheap, more rpms and power. a fair amount of work, but probably less than a swap

From what I have read about the 2.7i stroker setup, you may be doing less work by swapping in an M30 or M50. The M30 will give you traction issues straight out of the box too... :D

The 2.7i swap is *easiest* to do with the 1988 eta shortblock, but requires a LOT more work with the pre-1988 motor.
If you want a 2.7 stroker with your early-eta motor, and you want to avoid complication try finding a 731 cylinder head and an intake from a 323i import.

There are many build threads for either solution.

THE FORUMS to educate yourself about the 2.7i cylinder head stroker swap, there are dozens of people here with that motor.

I was about 1/4 the way into the 2.7i swap, and hit a snag. Bought all of the parts and found out the head I was going to swap in was bad.
Now I am going for the m30 swap because as I understand it... in the long run, it would take about the same amount of work as what it would take to complete my 2.7i build.

THIS FORUM (m30 and other swaps) to better educate yourself about motor swaps.
Yeah, it's not the 2 minute version, but whose opinion do you trust:
        a) the 4 people who will post their thoughts in this thread?
        -or-
        b) the 10+ multi-page threads over the last year that debate the answer to your question already?
        -or-
        c) the build threads of 20-some board members who have made their swaps, and whose obstacles and experiences are well-documented?

If you want the instant-gratification answer, go m30 !!!!
you can make compression low enough (8:1, all the way up to 10:1) to add a monstrous turbo if you really need it later.
