    how much boost

just how much boost can a STOCK M30B3.5 take and still stay reliable?

i am supercharging an M30B3.5 swap in my car. i would like to just rebuild the bottom end and put in total seal rings. then move on to the head ETC.

i am running a m-90 s/c and i don't think i will be able to pull any more than 15lbs of boost out of it and would realistically run 10-12psi. i am running a liquid to air inter cooler so i can maintain more consistent charge temps in my wonderful AZ heat.

i am shooting for still keeping the car as a DD.

i know that the M30B3.4 is lower compression, but that is not the engine that i have to start with.

check with good & tight. I believe he boosted his m30 at 14psi with stock internals. I think it was about about 360hp and shit loads of torque. Its 2 threads below this one lol.

Since it's apart, I would recommend a stock headgasket and ARP head studs.
It will handle 15psi all day long with no problems.

Hi Greg. I'm taking this quote from Paul Burke on mye28:
All good info, I just want to add that some of the late M30s use a Noral piston. This piston is prone to failure even in a none boosted M30. Would recommend either a B34 shortblock (Mahle piston) or change the pistons to something more reliable.

            Paul
From this thread, http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t...r=asc&&start=0 . Start about 3/4 of the way down, he explains more in the following posts. In short, you want Mahle pistons if you're going to boost.

Where'd you get the B35? I'm going to be shopping for one shortly.

B34s' FTW....I used to regret getting it over the B35 but they're dirty cheap and fun to boost!

                thanks and FUCK!
i am trying to get away with out buying pistons. do you know if there is a vin breakdown on what used the non mahle pistons?

i bought the motor off of a friend, it is still sitting in a stripped car waiting for me to pull it, there is a 5 speed sitting there too.

OK ,so a little more research says that it is the later half of 89 and up that have mahle pistons in the M30B3.5.
anything later should have mahle pistons

Greg, at 10-12 lbs, I really don't think you have much to worry about. At all.
