    G265 and G260/5

    Hello.
Do both this trannys have the same linkage setup?
Do they both leave the shift lever in the same position?
    Thanks.

No. No, it depends on what your solution is. 265 uses m3 linkage...260/5 uses whatever everyone else is using with these (standard 260/5 linkage...plate I believe)

      Cool.
Exactly what I was looking for.

Do they both use the standard e30 crossmember and mounts?
Can the linkage from whatever the 265 came out of be used?

From what I've been told the 260 will bolt on perfectly, just using
the linkage/shifter holder from the e28.

What exactly does the 265 use?
      Thanks for the reply.

I believe 265 and maybe even 260/6 use the e30m3 lower mount? I would like a confirmation on this as well before I start ordering parts (mount and shifter components).

I don't know what "lower mount" you are speaking of...but I have a 265 and everything is identical to the e30m3 linkage. Realoem has a diagram of everything needed for the 265, which fits perfectly in the shift hole.

The biggest difference is the shift rod joint and the bow that attaches to the back end of the tranny along with the obvious use of the shift arm instead of shift plate. There is no other normal way to get linkage done on the 265 unless you cut and weld the 260/5 shift plate. Ask me how I know...:(

"Lower mount" as in the tranny brace that bolts to the bottom of the car / tranny tunnel and holds the tranny up. Didn't the early 260 trannys come with shift plate and late with shift arm? Or are you saying all 265s were shift plate style?

            Thanks.

              Oooooo that lower mount :)

According to previous 260 swappers (not I) the OEM e30 crossmember works with the 260. Not only that but the shift linkage works as well.

              So....

260/5/6 - Standard e30 crossmember and standard shift linkage
              265/2 - Standard e30 M3 shift linkage and M3 crossmember
              280 - I haven't a clue :/

On the 260, does that include the e30 mounts, or does it need to
                be e28 mounts?

e30 rubber mounts would work fine. I had to use the plate style shifter with my 265.

The stamped steel crossmember that comes from the e24 works fine too with very little modification:
