which motor am i looking at?

I found a '86 635 for sale. I am having trouble cross referencing the engine. I usually use wikipedia as they are very thorough.
I want to pick it up but i was orig looking for a m30b35 for the numbers it produces, dont really want to go less....

Should be a B34 in the '86. One tell-tale sign is that the B34s have two "struts" that attach the intake manifold to the head. Also the stamping on the intake manifold will be 3.2/3.4 whereas in the B35 it just says 3.5.

    Example of a B34:
    $500, Diamantschwarz, and a Dream

Yep, the '86 is definitely a B34. Besides, a 6 series is worth saving... It would be a shame to part one out to make a 335i when you can get an M30 pretty easily somewhere else.

the 635 was destroyed in an accident so not much of a shame at all.
anyways, do you guys have any good resources for a m30b35? trying ebay, and some online salvage sites but....

depends on how much you want to spend. Bavauto recycling sells them for about $500, but shipping will kill the price of it. There is a pick-n-pull here in town that sells engines for $150 with a warranty, which means if it does not run, I return it. This is the route I am taking.

Other than that, check craigslist for totaled 535i's, 735i's, etc. Good luck!

$500 for a long block is what they want IIRC... best would be to find a wrecked e32/e34 locally imho.

I was able to get a 3.4L for $300 with everything on it from one of my friends.

He decided to continue his M20 build (hes quite far along in it), so since he didnt need it I got the engine from him.

I will be spending the next few months in my spare time taking things apart and sending them out to get cleaned up and prepped for boost.
