First we need everything so we can get started.

I just learned my lesson last week with overrevving a single cam BMW motor. I'm cool with keeping the redline at stock. I'll let my driving do more talking. If I really need more revs... I'll shift up.

If I'm already on 5th and need more gears...... then I'll consider putting a 6spd in. But even if that day dawns.... I will still keep the revlimiter stock.

Moral of the story: Dont f*ck with your revlimiters people.

I *have* seen an e28 and an e34 oil pan side by side today and I can tell the oil pumps must sit in a different location in both motors. The e28 pick up sits in the middle of the motor, in between cylinders 3-4. On the e34, the pick up will sit in cylinders 1-2.

Perhaps someone with experience can confirm this, but as of right now, I'm going by what I've been researching. Still have to get the motor before I can do this.

i just changed the pickups not the pumps. the pumps looked the same and in the same spot. One pickup just went back farther before it curved down. and i didnt want to use the pump i got cause it was from ebay and full of sludge

          We'll see what's up...

And let's start off with a picture:

In 12 hours we find out for sure if this car is getting another M20 or the big boss. :) Things are looking good for the M30 though. *crosses fingers*

As a note... this car must be done, completed and track-ready by no later than April 1st. If any M30 experts would like to donate some of their time, if you could please PM me some contact info so I can keep in constant touch. I am taking a week off life to pull this swap off.

PS: I still desperately need an ECU and the E34 M30 crank/trigger wheel!!!

Add an oil guard since you'll have your pan off....

If you don't find an ECU I can let you borrow my 179 ecu until you find another? I have boxes of m30 parts for my swap but I can't do it yet as I am still missing a couple parts...

The 3.25lsd I'll put for sale should pay for the car.

Right now I paid $500 for the shell, which I can sell the H&R suspension & basketweaves, and I paid $310 for the 535iS, which I can sell the diff for that (or a bit less). I could also sell the spoiler, but that's going on the 318iS :)

So all said and done.... as far as I can tell, most of this swap has been free thus far. :p Oh, I did pay $55 for oilpan + oil pump + t-stat housing w/ sensors and $95 for the motor mount brackets. But I got parts off the turbo car for sale.

Whoever wants 'em let me know :D

Alright, just sent payment for crank wheel + coolant block off plate.

Will be paying for the ECU in a bit to get this stuff shipped out.

Now I think I have everything that was mentioned.

Guys, what about coolant hoses and things like that? Can I use all the M20 stuff or do I need anything specific.

Gotta go hit up the shop now.

I think frankm_e30 went over the hoses in his write up.

I just bought a complete e34 535i radiator hose kit and we'll see how that goes. I believe you have to mix-n-match though

Oh lord what happened to that thing?! ha ha I paid that much but it was from someone in philly living out of a boarded up house. I would have never suspected a deal like that from e-bay

use all the m30 hoses, you just have to shorten them a little.

i just picked up an e28 today as well to replace my none running b34... if that thing is missing anything you still need let me know

also any interest in a 533 cam? should open it up a bit

Is that the cam from the very early models? I heard they open up the motor quite nicely.

Hoses: the e34 ones work, but they need to be modified a bit. The top one needs to be shortened and the bottom one needs to be lengthened.

Driveshaft: I used an e28 one with my e28 transmission and it needed to be shortened (I want to say 1 3/4", but don't quote me on that). I don't know what combo you plan on using.

You might need a new CPS to go with that crank wheel too. I don't know if the m20 one will work.
