    Guys that've made engine mounts.

    Hello.

One quick question, then some other ones. :P
Do you guys slide the trans back so far that there's no way
you can unlock the spline nut, and get the two halfs off without having to
    pull the engine?

    260/6 trans
    535i shift linkage.
    big flanged e30 drive shaft
    b35

So how much in/out movement should I allow
in the drive shaft, if needed?

Also, how do you get the engine pointing straight?
    just eyeball it?

How far off the subframe should the oil pan be?

    Thanks for the time.

    1. Well I can take the two halfs off without having to pull the engine but then again I slided the trans back as much as I could and then made a custom DS so...... and I left about 1cm more than 1/4 of it out for movement. dont know if that helps :S

2.as for the engine pointing, what I did was measure my 325i´s engine bay distance between the two chasis legs (dont know how to call them) and see where the center of the crankshaft´s screw is in the meter (usually its in the exact middle) tryied it in my 528i e39 and also was the in the middle.

3.mine is about 1.5cm to 2cm from the subframe and is kind of a tight fith with the hood but does fit without hitting.

    hope it helps

For engine positioning, I had the m30 sit evenly between the radiator and the firewall, which is about 1/4" of space on either side. I also measured the center position like HandalE30 did...

I can easily undo the driveshaft if needed in that position. I think I took the locking nut off the driveshaft, the M3 ones might be different.

For height, I stuck a slab of wood about 3/8" thick in between the pan and the steering rack, and bolted up the motor mounts from there.

I have my old motor mounts if you want to buy them, one is cracked but they can be welded or copied.

im in the process of making mounts right now as well. i compressed the 87 325e shaft all the way except for maybe a mm, tapped the firewall a little bit behind the head, and i used a porta power to push he upper radiator support about a quarter inch so i can fit the e30 radiator in. i probably have about 1/4 inch front to back.

as far as top to bottom, i have an e36 rack in the upper position and the engine is laying on it. after i make the mounts im gonna move it back down giving me about a half inch from the cross member and the rack

im also using solid tranny and motor mounts my buddy had laying around to mock it up. the solid tranny mounts put the engine level and the solid motor mounts will keep things from moving around while im tack welding

So do you wanna make an extra set or two of those? I would be interested.
