    M42 timing refresh

    Hey brains-trust,

I'm just looking for some advice on how to proceed with my m42 timing service... Predictably for some of you, I have learnt that one of the tensioners (11311727342) is NLA and I'm also unable to find the upper sprockets (11311727446)...

I read on an e30 facebook group that the e36 m42/m44 tensioner is a straight swap, PN: 11311743262. is that correct?

Also, any advice on what to do about the sprockets?

And ofcourse if anybody has either part in good condition please let me know.

It's upsetting because I've spent $1300 + $300 import tax on all the other parts, genuine and brand new, if anyone has any advice or tips for me / my mechanic that would be great,

    thank you so much!!

You probably don't need cam gears unless chipped or showing outer edge wear. Some versions were pointy from day one.

Search that tensioner slider part number in this section. I posted a comparison, and another member sorted out the swap, which isn't completely direct, but is basically compatible.

Check out my thread "M42 refresh" in this section, just went through all of this.

Paying for parts adds up very quickly, but it's worth the effort!
