Odd engine clicking noise, occasional (with video)

    Hi Folks!

Have an odd situation on our '91 318is w/ orig M42. We did the timing chain, profile gasket, etc. about 3k miles ago. Running like a top, no leaks!

BUT, recently have noticed an odd click noise. Feels like back of engine but could be the top. Doesn't happen all the time. Feels aligned with engine speed, not wheel speed.

Before I pull the valve cover, thought I'd post it here, maybe folks have an idea.

With click. Note that this is with the car warmed up.

Without click. This is a few minutes later. Seems to have gone away.

Sometimes its louder than others. Doesn't seem to be correlated to engine temp. Feels like it's at the top of the motor, under/next to the intake at the back?

Odd! Hopefully something basic! I tried to embed the video in the post but it doesn't seem to let me.

    All thoughts appreciated.

    Search is your friend! :-)

I'll try new oil + additive.
