    1991 318is cylinder head questions

I found 2 small cracks in my cylinder head. My question is about the part number on it, it says 1721464, then it has a 16 after the first number. All of the heads I see for sale have the same first number but the second numbers are all different. Is that number a date code? Also any thoughts on getting the head fixed verses buying another one. Thank you for any input. M42 engine

Probably still not worth it to have the head fixed. All M42 heads should work in any M42 application, regardless of a number. The thing to watch out for are M44 heads, which are very different visually, but some people try to sell them as fitting all 318i models in the US.

The number in question may be a casting number.

Thanks for the reply, I agree I’m hopeful I can get the head fixed locally. Just looking at all options.
