    M42

Looking for shop recommendations in either northern Va or the somewhere on the east coast. I want to have my m42 fully rebuilt and while the engine is out also have rust repair performed. All of the good shops appear to be in California

Howdy! I'm in Northern Virginia and have a '91 318is. You're likely going to need two separate shops---one for the body work and one for the engine rebuild.

When you say fully rebuilt, do you mean a complete tear down? Pistons, rings, rod bearing, head refurb, etc?

I've had RRT in Sterling, VA replace things like timing guides and the cooling system ~10 years when I bought mine. I've been happy with their work and they had/have technicians familiar with the M42. Depending on mileage and condition/compression/leak down, you can probably just go through and knock out a bunch of maintenance.

Call Euro shops and ask them. Einstein's in College Park, MD, or BimmerBuddies in Middletown, PA are both likely friendly enough to give a recommendation.
