Replacing M42 timing chain tensioner for M44.... different sizes?

So I take out the M42 tensioner and put it side by side with the M44 (that people told me to run). Is the M44 tensioner supposed to be shorter than the M42? The way I see it, the M44 tensioner wont even reach all the way to the chain guides.

Where the M42 tensioner that came out had tension (the chain guides were "forcing" it out), putting the M44 tensioner in doesn't even seem to touch the guides because I feel nothing pushing it back.

Can any M42 guys verify this? I'm concerned to fire up the motor with this M44 tensioner.

To answer the question in this thread

The new chain tensioner 11-31-1-743-187 works equally well with M44 and M42 engines. Once enough oil pressure builds up in the new tensioner, things quiet down quickly.
