    m42 rough running issues

Finally got a good radiator so I took my 318 out for the first drive since I've owned it. I've run it in my driveway before and it seemed to run pretty well- a little skip but the gas was like a year old.

Well I put the radiator in and bled it in my driveway, then I took it out for a spin. It was fine for a few minutes (wicked slow lol) but then it started to miss while accelerating. It was a pretty violent miss, like a mini redline. It reminded me of the overboost fuel cut in my Saab (not that any of you would know what that feels like). The check engine light also flicks on as this happens, but goes off instantly.

I notice it more at low rpm's, and less the smaller the throttle opening.

    My limited diagnostics:
-pulled the AFM cover but everything seems normal- no burnt spots
-#3 coil is weak but still firing
-tps doesn't click off idle like my m30 one does; not sure if its a different design for the m42's. Cant move it because of the retarded m42 intake
-stomp test flashes codes 1, 2, 3, 4 then repeats till I get bored of watching it

I am having a very similar problem with mine only the check light doesn't come on. Is there away to tell if the coil packs are bad? without replacing them.

Swap for known working one. I've got one that worked fine that I'll sell for cheap.

Did the car feel like it was almost stalling when it was missing? I have a similar problem when I'm driving mine, usually from a stop while accelerating, when I put a load on the car, it like bucks, like it stalls and picks right back up, SES light flashes too.

Been fighting it for a little while now, would love to get it figured out, drives me nuts!

          Sold.......again.

Hmm, looks like I'll be looking for some coil packs then.

EDIT: either that or a COP kit

              Sold.......again.
