Help identifying rattle - possible timing chain related?

I recently picked up a '92 318i vert to play with while my '90 325i vert is ungergoing heavy maintenace. The idea is to get it up to part to be a solid, fun daily driver.

The cluster was swapped from my 325i, the actual mileage is unkown, odo stopped at 150k.

There is a rattling that is most noticeable around 2500-3500RPM. I've done alot of searching and so far it seems to point to the timing system needing replacement. I already put in a new tensionser, it didn't seem to help any. I bought various parts for it, going to tackle the under intake manifold mess as well as pull the oil pan to check for loose bolts and also pull the valve cover to inspect the cam gears.

The big exhaust bracket that mounts to the transmission is, not. It is just under there semi-loose. I thought maybe it was rattling around and would make alot of noise at a certain resonant frequency, but I clamped a large pair of vice grips to it, and it didn't seem to make a difference.

      can't tell from the video.

Get under the hood with a stethoscope and find out where it's coming from.

      Under the valve cover? Lifters

From the front cover? Likely worn chain and gears.

I hear a sound at 3,000 RPM (in the video) that dosen't sound right, but I could be wrong, perhaps I'll get another video from the engine bay.... but so far it sounds like a regular M42?
