hey everyone. i just got my m42 wit 5 speed in my car yesterday. the motor fitted fine.. but the manual trany mount doesnt quite work out.. Im using the same brace that was used for the auto, the auto had 1 mount to hold the tranny, so i measured the 2 and drilled it.... but only 1 of the mounts went in the other mount was a bit high and wasnt working? do i need a manual brace or sumthing.. also my car is a 84 , and i put a 91 motor in there, sum of the electricals are different, and im not sure how everything is going to work out=[[

yeah, you're going to need a good deal of other stuff too.
At least you have the right trans and linkage. For the brace, any 5-speed brace will work. Note that your exhaust has the bracket for the auto-trans mount on it as well; you won't be using it with the manual brace.
The M42 uses unique fluid-filled engine mounts. They aren't cheap. iirc the green e28 535i engine mounts will work, but you'll have more vibrations.
Obviously, the entire engine harness is different. The issue with that car is that the early e30s use a different engine to body harness connector, so that may require some interesting wiring to work with the c101 on the M42.
the M42 also has a different radiator, with a built-in reservoir. The M10 one might work, but you'll have to rig up universal coolant hoses.
The driveshaft is also different; get one from a manual-equipped e30. Good luck with the swap :)
