          yes a "check valve"

be sure not to break it, the plastic will be brital from age and they cant be ordered from the dealer or any other parts vender. i ended up using a m10 check valve on my m42 because i couldnt find the right one.

if you dont have it, you dont have brakes. lol

just find one off of a m20 or m10 is your best bet (or a M42 if you can find one), or buy a genric one that may or may not work off the interwebz.

could that line not being hooked up cause my car to run for a minutes than stall?

                  possibly?
that line is under and the intake vaccum, so your car MIGHT run then cut off. if it did run, the idle would be rough, and i WOULD NOT drive it.

perfect. i just finsihed replaceing all the coolant and vaccum lines under the air plenum. i was very careful and took my time. i thought i missed something..and as i was finishing everything i broke that valve. heart breaking. thanks for the help. would any check valve work...there on lots of cars!

im not sure. i just went to a pick n pull and pocketed a m10 one because the inlet and outlet match the hose diameter.

let us know if you find one from another car that works. :)
