I just got an aluminum JB racing flyhweel, and I also go a new clutch kit to go with it!
    no more slipping hopefully.

Before I tackle this, anyone have any pointers to look out for so I dont get stuck on something.

    Thanks

Make sure you have the clutch alignment tool.

How much does that JB one weigh? I'm putting in a euro 323 flywheel in my M42 soon ~13lbs.

Nice! The M42 clutch/pressure-plate combo weighs less than the M20 on too, so you should have some fun with it.

              Of course!

I recommend for price the Horsepower freaks website, they have an aluminum flywheel for 400 there for the m42. I caught a deal for 300 via m42 club that I couldnt pass up.

Ill let you take it for a test drive

Have a lot of patience and try to get the car as high as possible.

if you change the pilot bearing i have found that there are two different I.D.'s. Make sure yours it the same before swapping, or hunt one down.

                        Tip

I got a pointer for you. Return the clutch, save your time, and never park anywhere where you will have to back out. The clutch is for ninnies who can't shift.

                          Tip..?

Take your time... but Give yourself as much time as you can, you dont want it turning into a two + day thing.
Have a replacement REAR main seal and gasket and also/or transmission input seal handy.... since your having some slippage.... it could be because one of those seals leaking. thats what was my major problem Rear main seal.... also PUT It In right!.... (No Homo:giggle:)

Have a couple medium size and or long extensions and a swivel socket.
                          Have fun learning

To get to the top mounts on the transmission, you can unbolt the trans brace and SLOWLY let the engine and trans tilt back, until the back of the intake hits the firewall. That'll give you much more room to work.

As said before, make sure you have the right pilot bearing. I guess earlier transmissions had 12mm input shafts and later cars had 15mm ones. I forget what the cutoff is, though...

Also, one of the heater hoses is pretty close to the top of the transmission...I pinched it when reinstalling the trans and cut right through it. Make sure the hoses are out of the way of everything.

realoem.com calls for the 12mm pilot bearing up to 9/90, the 15mm after that. I ordered up both anyway just in case. I ordered everything else too- spring, release arm, and ball pin. cheap insurance against future hassles.
