    buying 318is..help

Hi I'm new here. I live in orlando, fl, and there is a car in miami. The car has a blown head gasket, and supposedly everything else is ok on the car. I haven't seen it yet, or taken it to a mechanic.
All I know about the car is it is on good shape, has "an m3 tranny," and has around 100k miles on the working odo. I didn't know you could mate an m3 tranny to an m42, but then again I've never tried...I mean they are both 4 cylinders if it came from an e30.
I asked about the m3 tranny, and where it came from. The owner said it was on the car when he bought it, and has receipts for everything. He doesnt know which model it came from, I asked e30 or e36 and he didn't seem to know.
What exactly is a blown head gasket going to look like? Oil leaking from the head? Smoke on the block?

    Thanks

everyone calls the head gasket on the m42 a profile gasket. and everyone has said its a pain in the ass to do, takes a lot of time, and is cost intensive because of the labor.

non running e30 with a problem like that shouldnt be worth more than $700-800(at least in our area)...

there was on it in tampa the other month for $600 and it was MINT, i saw it, but just didnt have the room for it.

look up the common profile gasket issue. and you never know, it could be a cracked head...

when the profile gasket goes, coolant explodes everywhere. if the head is cracked you will get a good amount of white smoke from the rear.

i would be ready to swap the car, or find a new head if you go for that one in miami
