chain noise is often the tensioner, but can also be low oil pressure ( bad thing)
on eof the problems wiht the m42 is that the oil pick up bolts get loose, and some oof the other bolts in there, and then the pickup starts sucking air too,

this is an easy fix, easier then what you have already done to the car

so if your ordering all those parts, get the lower oil pan gasket, drop it, find the pile of bolts in the bottom, clean things up, reinstall with loctite
my car had 3 bolts laying in the bottom, others have had more

there is also a write up on " the easy way" to change the tensioner

Not really. I know my way around the m42 and it's problems pretty well.

still haven't bought it. My car's not on the road so it's not that big of a deal. But i still wanna fix it. I'm getting a intake boot and timing chain tensioner this week. and a new radiator bleed valve....mine's cracked.

its your freaking ICV. Find one at a junkyard. I spent $8 on a junkyard ICV for my M42 after doing EVERYTHING else to fix the idle, and bam, back to perfect.
