Non E30 Mercury Capri XR2 16v turbo help needed

So there are no forums for these cars anywhere as they're pretty rare. It's a car that I'm fixing up to sell but I just can't pinpoint one problem that I've been having and thought some of the car gurus out there could give some sage advice.

At cruising speed, the car will start to cut out or hesitate. This happens pretty consistently. Once I feather the throttle and get it above the RPM that it happens at it goes away. I've replaced the fuel filter so that's ruled out. It does feel fuel-related and there is no check engine light. Possibly the ICV valve or fuel pump?

ANY advice is appreciated, as I'm at my wits' end!

Since it is turbo, I would look for vacuum leaks, also check the plugs and wires.

I have a friend with an XR2, and I'm pretty sure he's on a forum. I'll see if I can find out from him.

Torque steer is insane. These things pull so hard and are so light. 1st gear is like holding onto a horse in heat.

If ever there was a car in need of an OEM quaife, that would be it.

A strut bar helps with my torque steer greatly.

Also, watch out of the design flaw all of these cars have. Rain water gets directed into the frame rail where, *gasp* it rusts through.

Have you done anything for the performance of the car?

Yeah, my dad's pretty familiar with these cars. He bought one brand new i '91 and has had about 5 since then. We just can't seem to figure out why it starts hesitating out of nowhere.

I noticed it seems to be more prevalent after it warms up. If I hold my foot on the accelerator pedal, it happens just before 3k RPMs. I'll feather the throttle and it'll come back, but then happens again in the next gear.

No, we haven't done anything to the car. It's all stock.

hmm... it ALMOST sounds like it's cutting fuel because of over boosting. when this happens, what does the psi gauge read?

That isn't it because I'm barely on the throttle and am using no boost when it happens. Good thinking, though.
