anyone know of one with a good sound for a decent price? not looking to replace the whole exhaust at the moment so just a nice universal muffler will do. let me know, thanks.

If you can get a Walker "Super Turbo" muffler, you will be surprised how quiet and how smooth a M20 can be.

I got a dynomax super turbo for $40 from advanced auto. they sound good on the m42. only a little rasp up high in the rpm band. not ricey at all.

Bought the Flowmaster Hushpower from summit racing; put a stainless steel tip on it and drove to Toronto last week. A bit on the loud side put it makes the m42 sound real bullish. Even over 200k on the clock it ran like a champ.

how about i put the glasspack in the middle replacing the stock forward muffler and then using something like a cheap free flowing turbo muffler in the rear with a nice cut down vw aircooled bug baffle for the tip?

ehh. the only way to make a m42 not sound ricey is to keep the cat, and the resonaters.
If you want a cheap non ricey muffler take my advice and get the dynomax turbo or super turbo. they're both very free flowing.

Magnaflow 11265, and if its too loud, install a 20" cherry bomb as well. This is what I ran, with a high-flow cat and 2.25" piping, and it was great, with basically no rasp once it warmed up.

Magnaflow 14816 if you want something on the loud side. I love mine, although it has a fair amount of drone to it.

I've gotten some pretty good comments on my current set up with the m42.

                          Here's the parts I used:
Magnaflow 53005, gotta have a cat to be nice to the environment and running without a cat on the m42 was deafening while waiting for this one to show up.

Magnaflow 12865? don't have an exact part number, it's the resonator from Magnaflow's mk3 golf cat-back system.

Magnaflow 12251, it's a tight fit, but the 18in long case has a deeper tone than the 14in long Magnaflows. And it looks sick with the tips from the golf cat-back.

one of these days I'll get a sound clip of it.

                          Edit:
                          Today is that day!

I just had mine put on today, I got a Thrush Turbo from Advance Auto for $27.99 it sounds good after warm up. It is a little loud but for thirty bucks I can't complain as my stock one was toast.
