    318IS No Fuel No Spark

    Whats up R3V?
    Heres the dealio:
    1991 318is

-Problem: No Fuel and No Spark
*Fuel Pump doesn’t prime when key is in on position or cranking*
*No spark when insert screw driver into spark plug and jump it to a ground*

    -Testing:
    *Tested Power to Main Relay
*Tested Main Relay switch over by giving it power and ground
*Tested Power to Fuel Pump Relay while cranking.
*Tested fuel pump relay switch over by giving it power and ground
*Tested Power to Fuse Box and Fuses
*Tested Fuel Pump by jumping power to it. (it primed)
*Tested power to Motronic Control Unit
*Bought another Motronic Control Unit (just incase)
*Checked fusible link about 12” from the Battery. (cruddy &replaced with Macgyvered fusible Link)
    *Removed after market alarm system

Theres prob more testing that I have done but I am at work and cant remember L. But I have heard something about jumping the 30 plug on the Main relay holder to BOTH 87’s (Which confuses me because I only see one.. If someone could clearify maybe that could help?..

    Thanks r3v members!

So did you actually swap in the other ECU you have?

Yea, I came across the fuel priming problem last night. Main relay wasn't grounding. So the Fuel pump relay coil wasnt working. Did find another problem it seems like the fuel pump primes after? u crank for a split second. And theres no fuel getting to the injectors.. I Sprayed carb cleaner into the intake while cranking an it turned over a bit until I almost blew myself up (You had to be there for that one) I Do have a new fuel filter Im going to throw in, So does anyone have any input?

            -Problem-
*Prime seems to be off :loco:
*Fuel not making it to the combustion chamber :hitler:

if fuel not making into the combuster chamber, reason is ,injectors dont have a signal from ecu. soo you try change the ecu,if this dont help, when check all power wires, and graund wires in the ecu socket.

Not really.. could be clogged fuel line or fuel filter, even a fuel pump issue.. ima have to investigate, I have a new fuel filter I got with the car.. I'm gonna install it to eliminate that off the check list.

soo when you try the easest way ,disconect fuel hose from engine, from injector rail, and try to start the engine,if fuel does not in hose, then chek the fuel line, filter, fuel pump and fuel presure.

Yea I might check if im getting anything out of the fuel rail and attempt to install my new fuel filter today if it doesnt rain. the forecast says its gonna rain. I wish I had a garage. i might just use a tarp and say f*ck it. Also will check if the fuel pump is giving out fuel.

Alright, so today is about 65 and not a cloud in the sky, I'm going to test the fuel delivery system, starting with fuel from the pump, fuel filter, and fuel rail :) ill let you know how that goes.

If you're getting NO fuel out of the injectors, you're dealing with an electrical sensor problem, or a dead fuel pump. Even a severely clogged filter will allow fuel through.

You're dealing with a bad ECU or power to/from it.

                          Are you getting spark?

I am getting spark, and fuel to the fuel rail. I removed the injectors and they didn't look too good at the tips. Iam thinking 4 clogged injectors since the car was sitting for a year and a half or more before I got it.. I do have another ecu I picked up.. i made a new fusible link for the battery since the last one was corroded to pieces. I have a new fuel filter I need to install also.. however I didn't get a chance to see if I'm getting signal to the injectors.. I can't imagine I'm not.. so when I get a lil money because since my DD car recently got stolen and xmas is coming cash flow is tight I'm going to buy remanufactured bosch injectors off ebay.. set of 4 for 75$ seems good compared to 160 per injector through a bmw dealership w/ my employee discount lol
