    M42 Air Mass Sensor/Meter Questions

So... After replacing the throttle position switch, O2 Sensor, spark plugs, fuel filter, and air filter, the old M42 still bogs down when I floor it. The only thing I see left to do is the Air Mass Sensor. However, I'm confused with the availability of spares. BavAuto has one for sale, but its $625! I only paid $2k for the car... Partsgeek.com has an A1 Cardone Air Mass Meter for $250. This is much more my kind of price range. Has anyone used this Air Mass Meter before? Does it work alright? Is it better just to try to clean the bejesus out of my existing f-ed up air mass meter with brake clean first to see if that works? I'm tired of the dirty thirty running like ass. I can't floor my car and its really bugging me. Thanks guys.

DO NOT spray it with brake cleaner!

Pop the cover off, and spray it with some electrical equipment cleaner... it comes in an aerosol can. Take a look at the track where the pin slides... it's a smooth action or are there some bad areas on it?

Have you tried a different ECU?

No I haven't tried a different ECU. Is it common for ECU's to fail in such a manner? I would suppose to ECU could cause this problem, but I'm more apt to believe a run-ability problem such as this would be caused by parts that "wear" like sensors, AFM's, etc. If I replace this AFM AND the car still runs like poo, I would guess an ECU is the next avenue to explore.

yeah. this doesn't sound like AFM to me. have you verified fuel pressure yet?

Wouldn't a vaccum leak be noticeable at idle though? The car idles great once it is warmed up. As far as fuel pressure...

I haven't checked that yet. What would that be indicative of? If the fuel pump was failing would that cause the car to bog down at WOT because its not able to supply enough fuel to the engine?
