If your motor is out of timing more than one tooth, your valves would smash your pistons. If you're getting 200psi even with oil, then our valves are closing at the appropriate time.
When the bolt is loose, it won't cause it to come out of time unless your woodruff key on the crank is broken. The crank gear won't spin unless it breaks it.
You know the front cylinder is #1, right? Take some pictures of the cams with #1 @ at TDC.Originally posted by Grueliusand i do not know what bugg brakes are.

I have been meaning to take some pictures but it has actually been raining here in southern and this car isn't in my barn. And I do know when the #1 cylinder is tdc. The arrows point up in relation to teh motor and I even stuck something on top of the piston so see when it was at the top of the stroke. I only did that because I wasnt sure if the arrows needed to point straight up or straight up in relation to the motor surface.
So if the woodruff key breaks, my motor goes out of time? this would explain why the cams line up but the cams and crank don't line up. But the fact that I get compression doesn't really fit this equation? Is it possible to put the crank pulley on slightly off? I am sure there is a pin or something but I really don't know anything about what this car has been through this past few months.

Your cams wouldn't spin if the woodruff key was broken.
It's VERY hard for the car to get out of time. Even rarer for the chain to jump the same amount of theeth on both cam gears.
You would be getting little to no compression if the timing was out.Originally posted by Grueliusand i do not know what bugg brakes are.
