    quickest Refresh of an m42?








    here is the spare engine thst I just pulled apart. Ill get my car towed here, and start tearing it apart to see what is going on with that engine. but it looks like this engine only had a blown headgasket, and a broken rail just as the one above you showed.

    I wonder what would be the cheapest way to do an R&R?

    just replace the engines as a whole, or pull the head of the other one. and just swap over.

    This engine looks to be in some pretty good shape, so I am thinking just slap on a headgasket, replace a tensioner rail and hope for the best. I'm avoiding goin to the machin shop if I can, cause I know ill be banked for the services.

    Did you take the upper and lower timing case off the one that is in your car yet? What were the compression numbers?

      I havent been able to make it back there yet. I'll have to bring a stash of tools up there and see whats going on.... I dont really want to work in the rain.

        skipped out on getting my head resurfaced when i did a gasket job... gasket didnt seal, was losing lots of coolent and ended up having to pull the head and get it done in the end.. also had to buy a new gasket.. was a real pain

            Do it right, do it once.

            My machine shop charged me only $40 to surface my M30 head. Of course I had removed all the valves and valve train myself beforehand.

              I definitley Agree, I jsut now have 1 m42 in parts, and the other is just in the car, I'd like to do the best possible thing with the lest dollars. I still gotta 2002 In pieces.

                dont forget to take the front top timing chain cover to the machine shop, it should be machined with the head
