Yaaa the skid plate hangs down pretty far from the pan! It saved my car though, I went up a curb in l.a. The other day and the skid plate did the trick.
Depends on where you live and what roads you drive.

I'd rather have a little less clearance and scrap up the skid than bust another oil pan. Happens alot to M42 but as i said above you it depends where you live and how shitty the roads are. Downtown here, some of the parking lots have 6-10 inch sudden drops. If you do as much wheeling in your car as i do in mine you need a skid. It even grinds on some of my friends driveways.
I consider it piece of mind. Not having to look behind me for an oil slick is well worth the $
ok so today it happened, i broke my skidpalte last week, and tonight i broke the rest of it and my oilpan, where it broke was where the 90 deg angles are.......................looks like the turbo motor is going in sooner that expected......and the bulid up of the holy grail of all m42 motors is going to be built out of this one the muthu fing s42
