Like the title states, apparently I put a hole in my pan last night, and didnt figure that out until this morning when I started my car to go to school. Started the car, and noticed it sounded a little loud, but but nothing crazy. Thought it might just be a little low on oil since I put quite a few miles on it the night before. turned the car off after about 20 seconds, and checked the dip stick. No oil. Grabbed some oil from the garage, and put a half court in. check the stick, still nothing. Took a peak under the chassis and to my suprise there was my half quart of oil leaking all over the ground and there was a dime sized crack/hole in the corner of the pan. Long story short, I'm trying to figure out if I effed the motor bad, or just slightly. My e30 is low, and im guessing i hit the pan going over the train tracks last night about a quarter mile (tops) before my house. Didnt notice any crazy sounds last night when I got home, but i did smell a little oil (didnt think anything of it). Lemme know what you guys are thinking...

I smashes my oilpan and didnt even notice either. I drove down the road and the oil light on the dash and on the check panel came on. Check it, no oil. I added about 3 quarts before i realizes it was all down at my feet. I have no idea far I drove it. Ended up replacing the pan and everything was fine. Good luck. -
^^^Serious? I didn't even get the oil light or check engine light, I don't know if thats good or bad..thanx for the "hope" tho:-)

How the fuck did your oil pressure warning light not come on? When I smashed my pan it took like ten seconds to come on. Does it even illuminate with the key in the acc. pos.?
Fix pan, re-fill oil, drive. If the engine is fucked you'll know soon enough.

Did the same thing to my car after hitting a curb. WORSE idea i ever made starting the car to move it down the street. Why you may ask? Well instead of $150 for a new oil pan.... let's try I found out my engine was toast once I got it towed back home. Yeah, only had the car for about a month. Now, I get to have much fun in getting her back on the road while sobbing over the fact I only had it on the road myself for less than a month.sigpic

This.
If the hole was small enough, you might have gotten home and shut the engine off before it ran out of enough oil to do any damage. It is weird though that no lights came on. Bad sensors or bad bulbs I suppose. If you turn the key to run with the engine off, do all the lights in the cluster light up?Comment
