    m42+ e36 m3 trans install questions...

Is anyone running this set up for there transmission? If so when I installed the gearbox I had a weird situation where it wouldn't slip snug to the back of the motor (about 1/4" gap from bell housing to block) just curious if anyone else had this happen or if I'm being paranoid.

    Thanks for looking

m42club would be another great resource.. never heard of this being done, but if it works you're going to have to do a killer write-up!

You think the input shaft is hitting the crank?

No I'm thinking more of the pilot bearing or the throw out bearing. The trans did finally mate to the block but I had to "walk" it in with the bolts. I've never had a trans need that & I'm just curious if I'm making a big deal out of nothing.

If you don't lube up the input shaft it's hard to press into the pilot bearing.

Any benefits to the e36 m3 tranny over the 240?

Well it is stronger for a start. There gears I believe are shorter so you need to swap in a lower ratio diff. That is about it. But for anyone running high hp it is a strong direct replacement for the 240.

Ok I'm still looking for advice on my swap, main issue is what slave cyl to use!

I tried using a e36 325i slave & blew out the seal. So I'm guessing the rods travel is too short hence why it came out of the housing. So if anyone has some specs on slave cyl please help me out. Would like to have this problem sorted before I dump a grip of cash into a mod'ed driveline.
