    "intermittent" Check Engine Light

So there appears to be nothing wrong with the car (91' 318is) but after driving it a while, if I come to a stop and have it just idling for a while the check engine light comes on. The second I start moving again or possible give it gas it goes away...

Anyhow have a clue as to what this is?

You can't really check it unless the light is on can you?

You can check it when the light is off. If a code was thrown when it came on then it is stored for a certain amount of time.

Vacuum leak maybe, I get the same symptoms everytime I forget to put the oil cap back on.

              Do the stomp test.

Awesome Ryann, did it this morning finally and turns out it is code 1222 Lambda Control #1 which means the AFR is too lean or rich for longer then 10 seconds. Not great since the list of possible causes is so long but at least it's a start.

Since it is only coming on when I sit at idle for a while this means that it's only getting too rich/lean during idle.

So what would cause me to be too lean/rich only at idle?

an injector "dribbling" would do exactly that. Any issues with starting?

If the car starts/idles/runs good I'd guess that the O2 sensor signal to the DME is inaccurate.

My M42 had a similar random CEL pop up, i did stomp test and it came up with Cam sensor, i already had replaced it so i thought that was weird, took some intake cleaner to the intake manifold and that code went away but car still had the CEL randomly popping up, ended up being the coolant temp sensor (the one that sends to the computer)

This, or possibly an exhaust leak before the O2 sensor. I'd say it is most definitely an air leak somewhere since it doesn't happen until the car is warmed up. good luck
