    Clutch.

The time has come to finally replace the clutch on my m42 sedan. I got a kit from pelican parts and I'm finally about to install it. I was wondering if anyone on here had some advice for me from your experiences. I have a whole story i will tell all of you (in a different post with pics/build thread of my project:)). Any advise is appreciated thanks

Resurface your flywheel and lube up the throw out bearing

Replace your M42 flywheel with an M20 single mass. Early euro 323i and some US 528e had 13lb flywheel stock. Plus the M20 clutch disk has a larger surface area.

I already have the clutch it's too late for that. I'm going to just keep the duel mass flywheel lol

Replace the rear crank seal and check for leakage at the trans. input shaft seal, replace if necessary.

You could at least have the dual mass turned down to lighten it, especially if you have it resurfaced as well. Take a look at your pilot bearing too, it might need a replacement.

i don't believe you can resurface a dual mass.

When you say turned you recommend doing what exactly?
Why would you not be able to resurface a dual mass fly wheel?

its tough to resurface a dual mass flywheel, because of the springs and clutches inside, can create an uneven/unbalanced surfacing (some machine shops can definitely do it however), I would take the advice to replace the rear main seal as well as the shifter input seal and any other seals back there.

I used hylomar as opposed to the Curil-T stuff recomended in the pelican write up, from my research online its pretty much the same shit.

Maybe even do the oil pan gaskets while your in there, upper and lower

ive changed 3 clutches in the m42/getrage 240 and I could probably do it in less than a couple hours now with all the parts/tools. Point of advice, if you take off the intake manifolds (upper and lower) it is so much easier to get the top bolts out of the bell housing and the starter bolts. [good time to do mess under the intake delete as well]

Gives you the chance to find out if you're about to lose oil pressure or grenade your oil pump due to loose pan bolts...

Lube up the input shaft on the tranny before you try and slide it in the pilot bearing.
