    M42 idling at 4500rpm.

Just finished putting in an m42 from another car with ~150k on it.

Crank the car, engine revs to 4500 and stays there.

Any ideas on whats causing that? I know I have an exhaust leak around the exhaust manifold, could that cause it?

Is your throttle cable adjusted correctly?

Its possible that its not, however when I do not have any pressure on the pedal the throttle does seem to be all the way closed.

I do not know the proper way to adjust the cable. I just tried to leave it the way it was before and hook it back up.

Well it's not going to rev that high if it's a little out of adjustment. Just look at the throttle body and you can tell if it's closed. If it is, I'd suspect TPS and ECU first.

Common sense tells me that when im off the pedal the cable should be just a little slack as in not affecting the throttle and when I am at full pedal the throttle should be as open as it will go. I believe it is that way but I will check it again.

For anyone with similar issues, check out this write.

When I get some time to work on the car again I am gonna use this to see if I can track down the issue.

In the mean time, and wisdom and advice is more than welcome

Also, there's a weird screw that sets the minimum valve opening on the outside of the throttle body. Mine came loose when I was driving one day and all of a sudden my car was idling at 3k. Made it really hard to shift.

Check throttle cable @ TB. There is a little plastic scre to adjust it, it might be off its peg. Also, you can try playing with it to see if it helps your idle. If you're able to ajust RPS scewing with this scew, then this is your curplit.
