Oil change causes rough idle and engine light?

Just did my first oil change and my car is not running so well

Replaced oil filter and changed oil with 10W-30

    Put in K&N air filter

And before both of those the car started perfectly and ran perfect. Now the idle jumps up and down for at least 30 seconds before leveling out, but sometimes it even dies. And my check engine light came on

    Any help appreciated

Ill tell you what. Rough idle can be caused by a bad vacuum. Make sure the dip stick is in all the way and the oil cap is on tight. Other issues could be had, you just didn't notice them. What do you have 318 or 325

Did you tear the intake boot putting the new filter in?

yes I tore a hose putting in the air filter. Can't believe it! Didn't bother to take the hose apart before lifting the air intake box

Ya i guess i should've worded that different, I found the problem, which was the torn hose.
